Take this self-paced online course if you are new to online teaching or if you are interested in improving your current online course. Open to faculty, staff and teaching assistants and offered through UBlearns, the course will run for 4 weeks, beginning on the published date.
The course will help you learn about theoretical concepts and includes practical tips and tools that will help you organize, build, interact and assess in your online or blended course.
Weekly topics include Course Design, Interaction, Assessment and Learner Support.
This course is based on Blackboard's Exemplary Course Program which awards honors to course creators who demonstrate best practices in course design. The course has been redesigned by a group of UB instructional support staff from the Shared Faculty Resources (SaFaRi), whose charge is to curate, develop, distribute and review the quality of online educational resources. SaFaRi is a sub-committee of the UB Online Learning Collaborative (OLC).
This is a fully asynchronous course which does not have any scheduled meeting times. Extensive resources are included and it's up to you to determine how much time you'd like to commit. Each of the four sections includes viewing a short 20 minute video, a discussion forum post, and a minimum of one additional activity in each module as the basic requirements. You can also choose to spend much more time reviewing resources, completing optional activities, and communicating and sharing your thoughts with others.
